The Gallup Poll - A widely recognized barometer of American opinion.

The Gallup Organization has studied human nature and behavior for more than 70 years. Gallup employs many of the world’s leading scientists in management, economics, psychology, and sociology. Gallup performance management systems help organizations boost organic growth by increasing customer engagement and maximizing employee productivity through measurement tools, coursework, and strategic advisory services. Gallup’s 2,000 professionals deliver services at client organizations, through the Web, at Gallup University’s campuses, and in 40 offices around the world.

Here’s some recent survey results from Gallup:

For the fifth consecutive year, George W. Bush and Hillary Clinton top the lists of most admired man and woman in Gallup’s annual update. Both are named by 13% of Americans in response to the open-ended question. The Reverend Billy Graham ranks among the top 10 most admired men for a record 50th time. Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi appear on the most admired lists for the first time this year.

Pew Internet and American Life Project

The Pew Internet and American Life Project is a huge undertaking with mission to understand how Americans use the world wide web in their daily lives. Support for the non-profit Pew Internet & American Life Project is provided by The Pew Charitable Trusts. The Project is an initiative of the Pew Research Center.

From this survey comes demographic profiles of internet users, charts showing Internet adoption over time, and much more.

Here’s some more interesting data from this ongoing study:

USER GENERATED CONTENT
More than a third or 35% of online adults create content online, and 57% of teenagers 12-17 make their own content to post to the Web. Younger users and home broadband users are the most avid content creators, and most post their creations online to express themselves creatively and to share their experiences with others.

FINDING A HOME, ONLINE
Nearly two in five adult internet users in the U.S. (39%) have gone online to look for information about a place to live, up from 34% in 2004 and 27% in 2000.

One great thing about this survey is that the results are available in SPSS format for people who want to manipulate the raw data.
